Safeguarding Policy
It is the policy of the Discalced Carmelite Friars to do everything in our power to safeguard the welfare of children and vulnerable adults to whom we minister or with whom we share our lives.
We cherish and affirm each child/person as a gift from God with an inherent right to dignity of life and bodily integrity which shall be respected, nurtured and protected by all and we strive to protect them from physical, sexual and emotional harm.
Everyone in the church has an obligation to ensure that the fundamental rights of children are respected.
These guiding principles inform the Discalced Carmelite Friars’ policy. The policy has been drawn up to ensure that the Discalced Carmelite Friars of the English Region take every possible measure to prevent abuse. It aims to ensure that none of its personnel or volunteers engages in behaviour that could allow abuse to occur, or actions that could be misinterpreted by children, their families, or other adults as constituting, or leading to abuse.
If you are concerned about behaviour towards a child or vulnerable adult in a Discalced Carmelite house or by a Discalced Carmelite friar, please report your concern to the Discalced Carmelite Safeguarding Representative, Eileen at 07796 655390
