Where God is with Us
“I can’t help it that in all things God gives witness to himself”
When Blessed Titus Brandsma was accused by some of his students of speaking about God in all his teachings in philosophy, he responded: “I can’t help it that in all things God gives witness to himself”. It is a key element of his concept of God. In all things God gives witness to himself: in all creation, in all that is; light, shadow and darkness.
In this presentation Anne-Marie Bos, O.Carm., will reflect on how Blessed Titus Brandsma himself gave witness to God. In reflecting on the life and teachings of this martyr we can learn that the way he did not succumb in the cruelty of Camp Amersfoort and Dachau, is fundamentally embedded in his spirituality, which is thoroughly Carmelite. His concept of God and his concept of mysticism are crucial for the way he gave witness to God.
Sr Anne-Marie Bos, O.Carm., lectures at the Titus Brandsma Institute in Nijmegen, Netherlands.
She specializes in Biblical Spirituality and Arts with a particular interest in exploring lived spirituality through texts and images.
Since 2015, her main project has been on making Titus Brandsma’s writings accessible.
